Yesterday’s Class – Wet Felting Wrist Warmers

Boy oh boy did I have fun yesterday wet felting wrist warmers with Jonatha Foli at Cast Away & Folk in Santa Rosa yesterday. Learned how to wet felt with a resist.

Super happy with my new ombre wet felted wrist warmers!

I made some shrink plastic buttons to go on them, the syllabus stated you can add three buttons, so I made three buttons then realized halfway through class it was three buttons PER wrist warmer DOH! These are interestingly organic and if I add the buttons I’ll be restricted as to how I can wear them, so I may not do it after all.

Love these, can’t wait to make a bag with resist.

Fused Glass Christmas Ornaments

I have been making Christmas ornaments every year as gifts for decades.

This year it was fused glass snowflakes. Since I didn’t start fusing in June–my kiln can only fit one at a time and my work is subject to thermal shock if I fuse when it’s really cold in the garage–I had to go to the glass shop to cook these.

I cut all the glass at home, transported it to Stained Glass of Marin for a drop in class and assembled on a tray there. I made 36 but I’m so in love with fused glass snowflakes that I  could have kept going. I think I’ll drop in for another day to make some that are a little more complicated.

There was some extra room on a tack fuse tray so I made a few trees too.

Already thinking about next year’s ornaments…

Workshop fun

I took a glass blowing terrarium class last month.

Mikey making a terrarium

It didn’t turn out as I’d hoped it would…all six of my terrariums cracked from thermal shock, but it was fun never-the-less.

I did end up with a cool clear marble that I love.

Here’s hoping I have better luck in my wet felted wrist warmer class next week!

Happy holidays!

We had a terrific Christmas at our house. Family, friends, and great food.

One of my favorite gifts this year is the mini bowl for my blender.

Tonight we delivered the last batch of Christmas presents so I can finally post the fun I had making them.

When I was little my parents had that scary pressure cooker with the wobbly pressure valve that everyone thought would fly off and kill someone. The only thing that I remember being cooked in it was stuffed bell peppers (blech!!).

Now that I’m a big girl and have my very own not scary pressure cooker, I realize there is so much more that you can do with it.

Got this beauty from the in-laws many moons ago and let it sit in the cabinet for a year or so before I figured it all out. Now I can’t live without it–I’ve even replaced parts–it’s that precious to me. It’s not electric neither which is important to me too.

AND it’s never had a green bell pepper anywhere near it!

Can’t wait to eat some ribs.

Oh crabs!

It was a beautiful day in San Francisco, crab fest at Capurro’s Restaurant & Bar was amazing.

Capurro's

Personalized parking assistance from Paul the owner, who kept the boys occupied while daddy secured the reservation and I did the parking. He showed them two giant barrels full of live fresh crabs.

Fresh Live Crab

Poor Joe asked if he could please save some, after all, how would you feel if someone caught you, cooked you, then ate you? Sure kid, right after I get mine!

We were only there for an hour, and when we left both barrels were empty.

Saturday mornings in the kitchen

Life has gotten in my way lately and I haven’t had a Saturday morning cooking session in quite a while. It was good to get back in the swing of things today.

I started off with french toast, using up the (more than) day old bread that my honey brought home from the restaurant. Since we were out of syrup I had to get busy.

Here we have chocolate, vanilla, brown sugar, and pear:

Syrups

Best part of the double batch of chocolate syrup is you have to make chocolate milk with the leftovers that won’t fit in the bottle. And maybe little Joe will use the pear on his toast/cakes/waffles, but no one else will so I had to make some yogurt to go with that.

Next we’re off to my sister’s birthday party where her hubby will impress us with pulled pork sandwiches. He’s been smoking and slow cooking the pork for days. We are all encouraging him to follow his dream of cooking school; I promise to taste test anything and everything! And then tomorrow night it’s off to my man’s brother’s house where his wife will make my cherished birthday dinner. Same thing every year–no deviation–catfish in red sauce with green beans amandine. Ahhhhhh.

What a food lovers delight this weekend is turning out to be.

It’s arrived!

September was a month for items lost in the post. First my birthday present was sent via UPS to USPS, complete with tracking number that showed that it was received by USPS back in early September. Then my August needle felt exchange package never arrived at its destination. I forgot to take a picture and it was one of my favorite pins.

So today I was surprised by my belated birthday present that was finally delivered. Since I called for a refund and reordered due to lack of delivery, I now have a LOT of silicone pop makers.

I sent Nancy a replacement for the August exchange…maybe she’ll finally get the original package?!
